Engine Repairs completed

Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. This vehicle suffered the melodies of modern oil being added to an old engine. Due to modern oils having high detergent contents, these can dislodge carbon build up in oil galleries and block up the system, resulting in premature big end failure. The engine was totally rebuilt with new white metal bearings, New piston rings manufactured and all completed to concourse standard. Car Winning Chrysler trophy for elegance at Louis Viton Show New York.

Here's something a little special. Lotus Cortina Competition Engine Lotus Twin Cam engine 1600cc built for rallying in Historic Championship. An original Lotus 'L' block obtained and re-machinedLotus Twin Cam to accommodate forged Omega pistons. Steel crank and rods balanced along with flywheel and clutch. Block deck heighted to suite pistons. Cylinder head re- machined to accommodate bigger valves and unleaded seats. Re profiled cams fitted and re-timed to our specification, all gas flowed and balanced chambers. Piston crowns machined to give a high compression ratio so engine will pull low down in rev range without upsetting the ability to rev out. Engine setup on rolling road and giving well in excess of 175bhp.

Rolls Royce 20/25 showing the same problem as above. As can be seen in the picture all the carbon loosened by the detergent is collected centrifugally in the big end webb of the crank shaft. This engine was caught in the nick of time before big end damage occurred. The engine was stripped due to strange noises and what was found on inspection was three broken compression rings on 1,2 and 3 and No5 piston starting to burn its way down the side. The cylinder head had a poorly repaired valve seat that was loose and causing the tappet clearance to wonder

engine had a new piston machined to balance with original five, new rings fitted, an oversize valve seat machined and head machined to accommodate same. New valves fitted where necessary, all valves seats re-cut and valves re-ground. studs replaced where required. All new gaskets and seals fitted. Car now starting and running as it should, and back pleasing brides and families on there wedding day, and doing it quietly.
